Privacy policy
The legally binding version is the German one (Datenschutzerklärung).
In short
KiezScore is a free map without sign-up and without cookies. All calculating happens in your browser: the connectivity score, "How far can I get?" and the GIF. Addresses, places and starting points you enter or tap are not stored. Data only comes up where your browser uses the services of other providers listed below.

Hosting: Vercel
The website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you open it, Vercel processes the data needed to deliver the page and protect it against attacks: IP address, time, the address requested, referrer, browser and operating system (server log files).
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure, working website).
- There is a data processing agreement with Vercel (Art. 28 GDPR). Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision, Art. 45 GDPR).
- More: Vercel's privacy policy.
Audience measurement: Vercel Web Analytics
To see how often KiezScore is used, page views are counted with Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. For each visit it records:
- the page, e.g.
/berlin/, without the part of the address after "?". That part holds the places and starting points you look at; it is removed in your browser already; - the page you came from (referrer), country or region, browser, operating system and device type, time;
- two events: switching cities (from which to which) and making a GIF (city and settings, without the starting point).
Visitors are only told apart by a hash of the request, which is discarded after 24 hours. We only see aggregated numbers, no individual people and no IP addresses.
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service). As nothing is stored on or read from your device, no consent is needed under § 25 TDDDG.
- More: Vercel Web Analytics and privacy.
Map: OpenFreeMap
Your browser loads the base map (map tiles, fonts, symbols) from OpenFreeMap (Hyperknot Software Kft., Hungary). For this it technically has to send its IP address and the map area shown. According to OpenFreeMap, it stores no IP addresses, except briefly to fight misuse.
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in showing a map).
- More: OpenFreeMap's privacy policy. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Address search: Photon by komoot
When you search for an address, your browser sends the text you type to the search service Photon by komoot GmbH (Germany). When you tap the map, it sends the coordinates of that point there to find its address. Your IP address is sent as well. Without searching or tapping the map, nothing is sent to komoot.
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in an address search).
- More: komoot's privacy policy.
Contact by email: Resend
When you write to info@kiezscore.de, Resend (Resend, Inc., 2261 Market Street #5039, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA) receives the message and forwards it to my mailbox: your email address, your name if given, the content, attachments and technical details of the email. I only use it to answer you and delete it when it is no longer needed for that.
- Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering requests).
- There is a data processing agreement with Resend (Art. 28 GDPR). Resend is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR); standard contractual clauses apply as well.
- More: Resend's privacy policy.
Storage in your browser
KiezScore sets no cookies. Your browser's local storage (localStorage) keeps only two settings: the language, if you switch it, and the time of your last GIF (for the 30-second pause before the next one). When you open the imprint or this page from the map, the tab also remembers the map's address (sessionStorage), so "Back to the map" leads there; it is deleted when the tab is closed. None of this leaves your device, and all of it is strictly necessary for these functions (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can delete it at any time in your browser settings.
Shared links and GIFs
A shared link contains the chosen places and settings in its address; whoever gets it can see them. A GIF is made in your browser; the house number of the starting point is left out. You share it through your device's share menu, so you decide who gets it.
Links to other websites
Links to other sites (e.g. GitHub or Buy Me a Coffee) only connect to these providers when you click them; their privacy policies apply then.
Your rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) (Art. 21).
